“独裁主义者”可以用英语表达为 dictator 或 dictatorial person，不过更常用且精准的表述是 dictator（尤指掌握绝对权力的独裁者）或 autocrat（强调独断专行、拥有绝对权力的统治者） 。在描述具有独裁主义思想或行为倾向的人时，也可用 authoritarian person（强调权威主义、专制态度的人） 。
