“大学生”常见的英文表达是 college student 或 university student，两者意思相近，在很多语境下可以互换使用：
college student： “college” 在英式英语中通常指学院（尤其是大学内独立的学院或专科院校），在美式英语里则常用来泛指提供本科及以上教育的学院或大学。所以 “college student” 指在学院或大学就读的学生，也就是大学生。例如：Many college students are under a lot of pressure due to academic demands.（由于学业要求，许多大学生承受着很大的压力。）
university student： “university” 主要指综合性大学，规模较大，学科门类较全。“university student” 即综合性大学的学生，也就是大学生。例如：As a university student, he has to balance his studies and social life.（作为一名大学生，他必须平衡学业和社会生活。）
